The semi-final took place on July 4, 2006 at the FIFA World Cup Stadium in Dortmund, Germany. The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and went into extra time.
Alessandro scored in the 121st minute of the game Del Piero hits the net with an accurate finish. The goal came after a pass from Gilardino, who played a precise pass into the penalty area. Del Piero shot the ball with great composure into the top right corner, so that goalkeeper Jens Lehmann no longer had a chance to save it.
Del Piero's goal proved to be the decisive moment of the game. Italy won the game 2-0 and advanced to the final of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
